Ooty Lake India


The lake of Ooty in India was artificially formed by Johm Sullivan, the founder of Ooty, in 1823-25 by damming the mountain streams flowing down Ooty valley.

Built in 1825, it is a 2.5-kilometer long lake meandering through the scenic beauty of the Nilgiris. The artificial lake of Ooty has emerged as one of the foremost tourist attractions of Ooty in recent years. 

Ooty Lake is a popular destination for picnicking, paddle boating and enjoying Ooty leisurely. The Lake and the Boat House has been the major entertainment hub of the large number of tourists who flock to this beautiful hill station particularly in the summer months.

Ooty India Museum



Located at Mysore Road, the museum displays many tribal objects and items of use and crafts of Tamil Nadu are displayed here.

The Ooty museum was established, near the Club Road in 1989. The Museum has six rare icons made of a combination of five metals belonging to 13th, 15th and 16th centuries. There are also about 300 rare coins and pottery items made several centuries ago.

 The latter belonged to the collection of James Wilkinson Breeks, the first Commissioner (Collector) of the Nilgiris. Among the other items are artefacts of the primitive tribes of the Nilgiris, including Todas, Kotas, Kurumbas and Paniyas, palm leaf manuscripts and antiques.
